Madonna wearing MDG sunglasses from Dolce & Gabanna

July 27th, 2010

In a departure from our usual celebrity sunglasses posts, today we bring you some more about the new MDG sunglasses from Madonna and D&G.

In a press release Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana stated that;

“Designing an eyewear line with Madonna was a new experience for us. The oversized and wraparound designs are sexy and very feminine, like our clothes. Madonna’s creative contribution and unique point of view were key, even in designing the MDG logo”

Madonna herself, is the face of the MDG ad campaign which has been shot in New York by Steven Klein. In the campaign, Madonna is portrayed as a mysterious, sensual star of a film noir who is caught on camera with a somewhat intriguing man.

To help give a more a cinematographic feel, the whole campaign has been shot using a video camera. This allows both the film and the photographs to be reminiscent of a short film or an old-fashioned movie.

“The voyeuristic images metaphorically evoke the essence of a star such as Madonna: admired, spied, adored, pursued and desired, but never fully revealed, shrouded as she is in dark glasses and mystery.”

Sunglasses Direct has these new Madonna sunglasses in stock right now so why not get your hands on a pair without delay. Buy them on the website.

The fashion mags are crammed with photos of celebrities sporting festival chic, often led by the likes of Kate Moss, who manages to make a pair of wellies look stylish with the right pair of Gucci sunglasses.

Music Festivals: Pack a Mac, Sunglasses and Wellies

Music festivals are a chance to put some rock-chick style into your wardrobe. And the sure-fire way to get the look right is to opt for a designer brand. If in doubt, flick through a celebrity magazine and check out what brands your favourite celebrity is donning this year – you can be guaranteed the magazine will dissect celebrities every designer choice from their shoes to their shades; Ray-Ban, Chanel, Oakley, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Police, Gucci, Emporio Armani and Jimmy Choo are all hot names in the sunglasses game. Choosing big brands you’re safe in the knowledge that your shades won’t date, but will simply become timeless designer classics. With leading designer sunglasses, you know that even if the sun isn’t shining, you’ll shine out in the crowd.

Designer Sunglasses – Stay Cool

No matter what the weather, festival-goers need to always pack a few essentials – including macs and wellies, as well as suncream and sunglasses. As with many British outdoor events, the chances are it will start out sunny and turn wet, or vice-versa. Variable weather is one of the few guarantees.

Many music festivals tend to be family affairs. It’s important you make sure your children are protected from the elements too. Always pack and use suncream whatever the weather, take your waterproofs and invest in sunglasses for your children. Research has shown that toddlers are vulnerable to the sun’s rays as the lenses of a child’s eye are more transparent. Excessive exposure to sunlight can potentially damage the eyes. It’s important to buy a good pair of sunglasses that offer the right UV protection.

Sunglasses – Style and Protection

June 9th, 2010

Sunglasses are not just about style, they’re about protection too – which is why you should always make sure your shades are authentic.

Designer sunglasses are much sought after all over the world. And like all designer goods, there’s a strong market in flogging fake designer sunglasses. But it’s important to know you’re buying the real deal, not just so that you are getting that authentic sense of style, but also to protect your eyes. Style is one of the biggest considerations people make when buying a pair of sunglasses, according to a survey by the American Optometric Association.

But protection should be top of the list. If you’re buying genuine designer sunglasses including Ray-Ban, Chanel, Oakley, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Police, Gucci, Emporio Armani, Jimmy Choo, Fendi, Tom Ford, Bvlgari or Roberto Cavalli, then you can be assured the sunglasses will offer you the right protection.

Counterfeit designer sunglasses may give you a hint of the genuine style, but they’ll definitely fall short on protecting your eyesight from sun damage.

Designer Sunglasses: Quality Protection and Style

A spokesman for the American Optometric Association said in a press release about the survey: “Overexposure to UV (ultraviolet) rays has been linked to a variety of problems, including age-related cataracts and degeneration of the cornea.”

But the survey found that people felt how their sunglasses looked was more important to people than their eye health. Buying a well known, high quality designer brand like Gucci or Police will ensure you’ll receive the best protection as well as look good.

Other problems with eye health as a result of sun damage can include abnormal growths on the retina and sunburn – causing blurred vision, temporary loss of vision and even in the worst case scenario, blindness.

UV protection is a given with top designer sunglasses like Chanel or Emporio Armani. It’s another reason to make sure when you shop for designer sunglasses, you stick with the trusted brands, and buy them from trusted sources. The American Optometric Association recommends to avoid UV damage to your eyes, you should:

  • Invest in quality sunglasses that block out 99, or 100% of UV-A and UV-B radiation and 75-90% of visible light.
  • Grey lenses are the best shade to go for as they reduce the intensity of the light without changing the colour of the world around you, making them a more natural choice.
  • If you are concerned about your sight, or sun damage, make sure you get a regular eye check up.
  • Wear your sunglasses not just when it’s bright sunshine but in cloud too – UV rays can still be harmful on bright, cloudy days.
