Ray-Bans rock, Chanel is chic, and Jimmy Choo is more than a shoe – having designer labels on you shades is one way of achieving rock star cool. Designer sunglasses from the likes of Prada, Dolce & Gabbana and Police are in big demand at must-go music festivals like Glastonbury and Bestival. Music festivals are places to see some of the hottest acts on the planet, but they’re also a chance to look hot too. The fashion mags are crammed with photos of celebrities sporting festival chic, often led by the likes of Kate Moss, who manages to make a pair of wellies look stylish with the right pair of Gucci sunglasses.

Music Festivals: Pack a Mac, Sunglasses and Wellies

Music festivals are a chance to put some rock-chick style into your wardrobe. And the sure-fire way to get the look right is to opt for a designer brand. If in doubt, flick through a celebrity magazine and check out what brands your favourite celebrity is donning this year – you can be guaranteed the magazine will dissect celebrities every designer choice from their shoes to their shades; Ray-Ban, Chanel, Oakley, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana, Police, Gucci, Emporio Armani and Jimmy Choo are all hot names in the sunglasses game. Choosing big brands you’re safe in the knowledge that your shades won’t date, but will simply become timeless designer classics. With leading designer sunglasses, you know that even if the sun isn’t shining, you’ll shine out in the crowd.

Designer Sunglasses – Stay Cool

No matter what the weather, festival-goers need to always pack a few essentials – including macs and wellies, as well as suncream and sunglasses. As with many British outdoor events, the chances are it will start out sunny and turn wet, or vice-versa. Variable weather is one of the few guarantees.

Many music festivals tend to be family affairs. It’s important you make sure your children are protected from the elements too. Always pack and use suncream whatever the weather, take your waterproofs and invest in sunglasses for your children. Research has shown that toddlers are vulnerable to the sun’s rays as the lenses of a child’s eye are more transparent. Excessive exposure to sunlight can potentially damage the eyes. It’s important to buy a good pair of sunglasses that offer the right UV protection.

Sunglasses – A Ray of Glamour

Designer sunglasses can transform a man’s image, and this year it’s all about retro appeal with classic Ray-Ban styles.

Ray-Bans have long led the way for women and men. And it’s easy to see why when you look at the designer sunglasses and their timeless style and legacy. And the current trends are all about tapping into the Ray-Ban legacy, with their retro, nostalgic vibe. Ray-Ban sunglasses date back to 1937 and the shades stepped into the limelight when they were manufactured for the United States Army Air Corps – a look that was echoed decades later when Tom Cruise donned a pair of Ray-Bans for the iconic movie, Top Gun. It moved into the fashion arena when Bausch & Lomb sold the Ray-Ban brand to the Italian Luxottica Group.

Ray-Ban in the Spotlight

Ray-Ban designer sunglasses always had their roots in style however. They were originally conceived after Lieutenant John MacCready approached Bausch & Lomb to create protective sunglasses after he damaged his eyes on a balloon flying trip – but he wanted them to look elegant too. As American pilots adopted the sunglasses, they acquired the name “Ray-Ban Aviator” and the style became synonymous with pilots in World War Two. From the arena of war to the glitz of Hollywood, Ray-Ban designer sunglasses featured in countless movies, dating back to a movie that made history thanks to its iconic fashion – the classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s, featuring one of the world’s most acclaimed beauties – Audrey Hepburn. From the romance of the sixties to the thrills of the eighties, Tom Cruise has carried Ray-Ban sunglasses to new heights, and is regularly snapped in a pair of Aviators or Wayfarers on and off screen.

Ray-Ban Sunglasses – Define your Personality

Perhaps the biggest accolade for wearing Ray-Ban designer sunglasses however is the fact that President Barack Obama has been snapped wearing a pair of Ray-Ban’s. The designer sunglasses have protected the eyes of the great and the good – it’s not surprising that so many men and women want to invest in a brand that has been worn by everyone from James Dean to Bob Dylan. Ray-Ban may have a classic, timeless appeal, but their success is in reinventing the brand for each generation. In 2008, the Ray-Ban Clubmaster designer sunglasses were worn by the cast of the cult American series, Gossip Girl.

Classic Ray-Ban Aviators, Wayfarers and Clubmasters are firm favourites – and the Ray-Ban brand, perhaps more than any other, offers the dudes of the world a chance to define their personality.

Designer Sunglasses Take Centre Stage

Film stars are known for wearing designer sunglasses on and off the screen.

Designer sunglasses are an essential part of the movie star’s wardrobe. Whether it be Ray-Ban, Chanel, Oakley, Prada, Dolce & Gabbana or Police, you won’t find a film star without their designer shades.

Sunglasses are the essential fashion accessory for those who live in the bright glare of the media spotlight or the LA sun. Gucci, Emporio Armani, Jimmy Choo – these designer sunglasses names are as close to movie stars as their agents and publicists, offering a cool veneer to hide behind. Designer sunglasses are the ultimate in flexible fashion, ensuring the stars look cool even when stepping out of their cars or taking a flight.

Designer Sunglasses, Handbags and Shoes

When it comes to designer labels, sunglasses, shoes and handbags are the essential staples for any woman who follows fashion. Fendi, Tom Ford, Bvlgari or Roberto Cavalli are every girl’s best friend in the style stakes. Designer sunglasses add to the mystery, create an alluring style, and of course, hide a multitude of imperfections – a night out on the tiles, sleepless nights, watery eyes struggling with hay fever or allergies…the compulsory and practical accessory for those who live life to the full. And of course, lets not forget designer sunglasses also fulfil that crucial job of protecting your eyes from the harmful glare of the sun. Sunglasses can transform an outfit, injecting sixties glamour with Jackie O shape shades. Hollywood routinely parades its leading ladies in the best designer sunglasses such as Chanel or Dolce & Gabbana.

Designer Sunglasses with Star Status

In the movie the Devil Wears Prada, it isn’t Prada sunglasses Anne Hathaway wears, but Chanel sunglasses when her character has a complete Chanel makeover injecting her with an effortlessly chic style. In Casino Royale, Eva Green looks stylishly continental wearing Versace designer sunglasses. Scarlett Johansson opts for Ray-Ban sunglasses in the hip Woody Allen movie, Vicky Cristina Barcelona for a timeless look. Natalie Portman opts for Marc Jacobs in the movie My Blueberry Nights for a little Italian spice. And that’s just the women. Designer sunglasses can certainly stand out in a film. Tom Cruise will forever be associated with Ray Bans after his movie Risky Business which featured him wearing a pair of white wide-fronts and a fetching pair of Ray Bans. And aviator style Ray Bans became another theme for Cruise when he starred in the iconic movie Top Gun.

Designer Sunglasses – See Things Straight

Designer sunglasses work hard for their living giving you protection, reducing the risk of certain cancers, reducing wrinkles and making you look good.

There’s a scene in the Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie movie, Mr and Mrs Smith, where the cornered couple load up on guns and military hardware before launching themselves against a mini-army of agents out to get them. The last thing they do is slip on some pretty stylish shades to indicate they’re as ready as they’ll ever be. Sunglasses work a bit like a bullet proof vest for the eyes, safeguarding our sight from damage, as well as providing a host of additional benefits.

Designer sunglasses were born when a naval officer requested for a pair to be designed after suffering damage to his sight after a hot air balloon adventure. The glare of the sky caused permanent damage. But he wanted to look stylish too – hence Ray-Bans were born. Pilots wore the designer sunglasses primarily as a form of protection, but they couldn’t help looking effortlessly cool too.

But wearing the best designer sunglasses isn’t just about loving your look, it’s about loving your eyes and your health. By protecting your eyes from damaging ultraviolet rays, you stop yourself from developing a squint. Although cheap sunglasses can work, over time they lose their effectiveness, and not all cheap sunglasses come with UV protection.

And if the worry of damaging your eyesight isn’t enough motivation, the brightness causes you to squint and frown – which triggers deep set wrinkles. It’s important you wear good quality sunglasses not just in the sun, but if you are in the water or snow where light is stronger due to reflection and glare. Good sunglasses can eliminate UV rays completely.
