Ray Ban sunglasses

Ray Ban is the world’s biggest selling brand of sunglasses, selling over 20 million frames per year.

Ray Ban started its massively successful brand over 70 years ago in 1937, when Lieutenant John MacCready returned from a balloon trip to find his eyes had been damaged by the intense sunlight, and decided that he would approach the successful Bausch & Lomb optical manufacturer to come up with a prototype of a well designed, and protective pair of sunglasses.

They came up with a frame that provided excellent vision even in the brightest sunlight, with glass lenses that cut out infrared and ultraviolet rays. The prototype was then adopted by the Air Force and Bausch & Lomb became the Army’s supplier throughout the war for protective eyewear.

Over the years many high-class celebrities and icons such as, Audrey Hepburn, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Micheal Jackson and even Barack Obama has worn Ray Ban sunglasses more recently. None of these celebrities have been paid by Ray Ban to wear these sunglasses, they chose to wear Ray Ban off their own back and pay for them out of their own money.

Ray Ban as a brand has created an aura of style around their sunglasses that make the icons of the music and film world wear their styles!

The late Michael Jackson throughout his vast musical career wore the iconic-mirrored large aviator Ray Ban 3025. This frame was a trade -mark look for Micheal Jackson and is still available today from Ray Ban.

In 2004 Ray Ban became sponsors of the BAR Honda Formula One team. The Ray Ban logo is featured on the helmets of the famous race drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, providing some high profile advertising for the brand.

In was also announced in 2009 that Ray Ban would continue to sponsor the Brawn GP team after the break down of the Honda Racing team. Members of the Brawn GP racing team all wear sunglasses from the current 2009 collection.

Ray Ban is constantly inventing new styles for the fashion conscious consumers, however they are also re-inventing the classical styles such as the Ray-Ban Wayfarer and the Clubmaster, which were dominant styles in the 1950’s, but Ray Ban has once again made them a must-have item for the fashion conscious!

The traditional Ray Ban Aviator has always sold well, however the outstanding success of the traditional Wayfarer in 2007/2008, brought Ray Ban’s brand back into the limelight with celebrities and the general public going mad for the frame!

This year Ray Ban has done it once again with the Clubmaster! At first critics said it would never sell as it was an old style and a very strong look, however Ray Ban have proved them wrong with the growing success of this frame.

It is set to be massive for the 2009/2010 seasons; available in several different colour options you can really tailor the sunglasses to your taste.

Sunglasses – Ray Ban’s coolest range?

A pair of Ray Ban sunglasses has long been one of the coolest accessories you can buy.

Ask anyone about brands of designer sunglasses, and Ray Ban is one of the names you’ll hear first. With a long history in the design of beautiful sunglasses, Ray Ban is still one of the biggest brand names on the market – and the company is still producing designs that lead the field.

The Ray Ban sunglasses range

Like most designer sunglasses labels, Ray Ban has a great range of eyewear for men and women. With a variety of shapes, colours and styling, you’re sure to be able to find a pair of Ray Bans that suit your face shape and your style attitude:

Ray-Ban Clubmaster – Ray Ban has designed a range of fantastic fifties frames that will appeal to retro lovers as well as those who want the latest designs. Ray Ban has extended the range of colours and finishes for the Clubmaster sunglasses range, which means you can choose the colour that suits you best or, because they’re reasonably priced, you can choose more than one pair. Whether you’re wearing them to a wedding or a music festival this year, you’re sure to stand out from the crowd.

Ray-Ban Wayfarer – the re-issued Wayfarer sunglasses were an instant hit a few years ago, and it remains one of Ray Ban’s most popular designs. It’s a classic, which Ray Ban has updated for today’s fashion market, using bold colours to enhance the styling and to widen the appeal. And at a great online price, why buy fakes when you can afford the real deal?

Ray-Ban Aviator RB 3025 – Aviator sunglasses never seem to go out of fashion, and the general style is revamped and re-moulded each season by a variety of designers. Ray Ban’s Aviator RB3025 sunglasses, however, has stood the test of time and, since the design’s first appearance in World War II, millions of people have taken advantage of the simple, classic styling. Aviator RB3025 sunglasses are now available in a wide range of lens and colour options, allowing you to wear the aviator style, but co-ordinate the finish with your own personal taste.

• Warrior RB 3342 – a take on the standard aviator frame, Ray Ban’s Warrior RB3342 is a slightly softer styling that appeals to many. With a more delicate appearance, these sunglasses still come with lens and frame options, giving you the freedom to choose the glasses that are best for you.

Sunglasses for Protection and Posing!

Sunglasses are necessary to protect your eyes as well as to help you strike the perfect pose! And some health experts are saying sunglasses could help you before you step onto the beach – by helping you overcome jet lag.

Sunglasses, especially designer sunglasses are the must-have accessory through the summer months. And many of us start thinking about investing in a pair when the sun starts to shine or if we’re about to jet off somewhere hot. But research shows that sunglasses could be more than just good for your looks, they can be good for your well being too.

Sunglasses – Plane Sailing

According to leading sleep experts, wearing sunglasses in the last stages of an overnight flight makes perfect sense. If you’re Bono or Posh Spice, chances are you’ll be wearing shades 24-7, regardless of where you are and if the sun is out.

But for anyone on an overnight flight, the sunglasses can help you beat jet lag if you wear them on the plane and keep them on for the first few hours when you land. The advice is the result of research by Chris Idzikowski, the director of the Edinburgh Sleep Centre.

He also recommended that planes change the light on-board to help the passengers’ body clocks adjust to the time zone leaps. Just changing your watch to the destination time and trying to stay awake simply doesn’t help jet lag. Chris Idzikowski says jet lag is a physical response, that demands more than a “mind over matter” solution.

Put Your Glasses on!

And if you’re going to wear sunglasses to help you beat jetlag, you may as well make sure they are stylish sunglasses. Designer sunglasses from leading brands such as Gucci and Chanel offer timeless sophistication, so you’ll look good getting off your flight and on the beach. Chris Idzikowski has worked out that if you rise at 7am and are flying to New York, you should be exposed to light between 9pm and 11.30pm and wear their sunglasses between 11.30pm and 2am.

Sunglasses then have become one of the essential items for any holiday in the sun – not just to protect your eyes and safeguard you from dangerous ultra violet rays, and not just to ensure you look cool and chic – but to even help you beat jet lag.

Designer Sunglasses – Arresting Styles

Designer sunglasses are effortlessly cool – and they’re pretty much compulsory when it comes to cop shows.

Designer sunglasses have always epitomized cool. And ever since the police show began on TV, wearing shades was part of the uniform. From Starsky and Hutch and Miami Vice in the eighties, Magnum PI in the nineties and CSI today – the designer sunglasses went with the badge.

But although wearing sunglasses like Ray Bans is an accepted part of any Hollywood wardrobe and film set, UK police are not expected to follow their cool American counterparts. A story in the Daily Mail revealed that police officers in Essex have been warned to take off their Ray Bans and leave their designer sunglasses at home – no matter how Hollywood they want to look.

Guilty of Looking Cool

Of course, wearing sunglasses (designer or not) is crucial in the summer months to ensure safe driving and to protect eyesight, but critics fear that the UK cops were donning their designer wear to simply look cool.

American crime shows are riddled with designer sunglasses as every cop walks coolly onto a crime scene. But perhaps designer sunglasses are more accepted in the Californian sunshine than in the more suburban surroundings of Essex.

Critics feared police wearing Ray Bans or any other kind of designer sunglasses could intimidate the public. By hiding the eyes and not being able to make eye contact, sunglasses can send out cold, threatening messages.

Sexy Stubble, Designer Sunglasses

CSI: Miami or CSI: New York may be a bit further removed from The Bill! David Caruso wouldn’t be seen dead without his shades, but Essex plods won’t be granted the same privilege. The only officers who can wear sunglasses are those who have a medical prescription or police drivers. If a police officer is wearing sunglasses, the regulations are he or she must remove them when speaking to the public.

It isn’t a new concept – sunglasses and shades have long been associated with a kind of cool, aloof image. And taking off a pair of sunglasses is a way of offering up eye contact in a non threatening way. The British army were told to remove their sunglasses when dealing with civilians in Iraq in an attempt to build trust with the local Iraqis. Eye contact is crucial in communication and building trust.

Looking sexy is not allowed for British police unlike their American counterparts (on TV at least). According to the Mail, as well as being told not to wear sunglasses, they are not allowed to use their mobiles in public or wear designer stubble!
