Designers already have their sunglasses in the stores for this year, so what should you be looking for?
Thinking of updating your sunglasses collection in 2010? It’s easily done, especially, if you shop online, where the choice is great and the prices are competitive. Whether you’re a dedicated follower of fashion, or just someone who’s been wearing the same sunglasses for three or four years and is ready for a change, you’re bound to find something in the designer sunglasses sector that suits your look and your wallet.
2010 sunglasses trends
There are a few trends to look out for in 2010 – some of them carried over from 2009 and some of them new. The sunglasses market isn’t one where big changes are made very often, but paying attention to small details can help you to show off your style credentials:
• Colour – colour is likely to be a big feature for sunglasses in 2010. Not necessarily bold or brash, colour is used both on the frames and the lenses in order to soften the often harsh look that total black brings. Purple is one of the colours for 2010 as far as sunglasses are concerned, with some designers using it subtly in arms or lenses, whilst others make it a key feature.
• Lenses – whilst sunglasses don’t carry prescription lenses, they are still a big part of the overall style, so it’s no surprising that designers pay attention to the way they look. Graduated lens colour is one of 2010’s trends, both in coloured and black lenses. These lenses are usually graduated with the darkest area at the top, lightening further down the lens and the extent of graduation varies from designer to designer.
• Retro – there’s still an element of retro in 2010’s sunglasses. Ray Ban’s Wayfarer and Aviator sunglasses show no sign of dropping off the popularity ladder because classic styles like these are always stylish to wear. Ray Ban has adopted the colour theme, however, and you can buy Wayfarers in a number of new colours in 2010.
• Oversized – this trend may seem like it’s been around for a while, but there are still plenty of celebrities wearing oversized sunglasses, and plenty of designers refining their styles to give 2010’s big sunglasses a new look. If you have the confidence to wear oversized sunglasses, perhaps 2010 is the year to give it a go.
